Licensing Information

General Lines Property & Casualty License

A General Lines Property & Casualty license may be issued to individuals who:

• are at least 18 years of age
• are active in the business of selling insurance to the public
• and are sponsored by a qualified insurer or another General Lines P&C agent

The procedure for obtaining the license is as follows:

• Register for the state exam with Thomson Prometric (effective 11/01/05), contracted licensing center, and pay the appropriate exam fee.  To register go to http://www.prometric.com/Texas/Insurance.htm or call 866-267-0455
• Receive a passing score on the state exam before proceeding with application to the State of Texas.  Applicants have 12 months from the date of the first exam taken to obtain a passing score.

• Have a valid appointment with an insurer or general lines agent that the applicant will represent.
